Department of External Affairs 35 years (retd)
It is with sadness that we announce the death of Eric Carter on December 12, 2019, at the age of 92. Beloved husband of Lynne Carter (nee Evans) for 46 years. Cherished father of Susan (Jean Paul Trudel) and Wendy (Cam Overton). Proud grandfather of Jennifer (Chris Hayne), Melissa (Jean Paul Sabourin) and Ashley (Matt Arcand); great-grandfather to Hailie Overton, Noah and Joshua Sabourin, and Shain McIntyre- Arcand. Eric was predeceased by daughters Marie Carter (Rob Jennings) and Erica McIntyre (Herb.) He was also predeceased by his siblings Norman Carter and Dorothy Powell (Charlie), his parents Robert and Gertrude Carter, and niece Brenda (Alan Brown). Eric lived a very interesting life. He was in training for the RAF when WWII ended, and he then accepted an offer to join the Palestine Police Force. Upon completion of the British mandate he immigrated to Canada to join the rest of his family in Belleville, Ontario. He worked for Northern Electric for several years, making good use of his certification from Wimbledon Technical College, before joining External Affairs. He had several postings overseas (Bletchley, Paris, and London twice), and, following his retirement in 1991, accompanied Lynne to Tokyo, Bridgetown and Brasilia. Eric was a sports fan, particularly cricket and soccer, and he followed the Habs for nearly 70 years. Eric loved music, puzzles of all kinds, and a good British mystery novel. Friends and family are invited to a memorial service at Beechwood Funeral Cemetery and Cremation Services (280 Beechwood Avenue) on Thursday, December 19 at 2 p.m.
