Subject:"Celebration of Life" for Larry Manns

I am sending this to everyone on my email list that is in BC to let you know we have finally settled on a date for Larry's "Celebration of Life".

We are having the official one in Nanaimo and a smaller one at my home in Kelowna.

The one in Nanaimo will be on Sunday 29th of April at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 10, 129 Harewood Rd. There will be a small legion service, with a reception to follow. Anyone wishing to say a few words will be more than welcome.

The one in Kelowna will be very casual at our home, Saturday 9th June, 2428 Sexsmith Rd. Between 2-5. Hopefully it will be held outside, so bring chairs.

I am sure there are people I have missed and I would appreciate it if you think of anyone, please pass the word on.

Ethel Manns

Larry Manns

MANNS, Larry Norman July 28, 1941 - December 19, 2006 It is with great sorrow that we announce the sudden and peaceful passing of Larry in Salome, Arizona December 19th, 2006. Survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Ethel, daughter Kelly (Scott), son Norman (Michelle), grandchildren Tynan, Courtney and Joshua. Also survived by his mother Emily, sisters Geri Raines, Audrey (George) Tilley, Donna (Cy) Martin and brother Terry (Georgie) and numerous loving relatives and friends. Predeceased by his father Norman, sister Beatrice and brother Keith. Larry was born in Flin Flon, Manitoba and moved to Nanaimo in 1951, where he completed his secondary education. Larry served with the Canadian Armed Forces from 1961 to 1988 in many different locations around the world. He then served with Foreign Affairs Department of Canada until he retired in 2001. After retirement Larry and Ethel moved to Kelowna. His great love of travel and adventure brought Larry and Ethel to the four corners of the world and when they returned home they shared their experiences with family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all of us. Interment will be private. Family will receive friends informally at the home of his son. If desired, donations in Larry's memory may be made to the Sandra Schmirler Foundation, 1660 Vimont Court, Cumberland, Ontario, K4A 4J4.
Published in the Ottawa Citizen on 12/26/2006.

This photo of Larry was taken at the Old Foreign Affairs Retired Technicians lunch in Ottawa on 18 October 2006.

Dear friends,
On behalf of all of us, I would like to thank everyone for your kind emails and telephone calls.
I have tried to call as many of you personally so that you would get the news of Larry's passing as soon as possible, but as you can appreciate it is impossible to find everyone at home at this time of the year.

For those of you that did not get the news, Larry passed away peacefully, in his sleep, on Tuesday 19 Dec. while we were in Salome, AZ. He had not been sick in any way, so of course it has been a devastating shock to all of us.

I immediately flew back to Ottawa to be with Kelly, Norm and their families.

We arranged for Larry to be returned to Kelowna, because at that time I was not sure what we were going to do. After discussions with Kelly & Norm, we decided that Larry should be put to rest at the National Military Cemetery, (in Beechwood Cemetery) here in Ottawa. He had a wonderful military career and we feel that he will be happy there. Therefore he is being returned to us in Ottawa and we will put him to rest on Thursday 28th Dec. We have decided that we want this to be private, therefore there will only be Kelly, Scott, Norm, Michelle and myself present.

If desired, donations in Larry’s memory may be made to the Sandra Schmirler Foundation, 1660 Vimont Court, Cumberland, Ontario, K4A 4J4

The obituary has been placed in the Nanaimo Daily News and Nanaimo News Bulletin and will be placed in the Kelowna Daily Courier and the Ottawa Citizen probably on Dec. 26.

On Friday, 29th December, there will be a "Celebration of Larry's Life" at Norm's, here in Ottawa, between 2 - 5 pm. His address is 535 Pocono Crescent, in Orleans.

In the spring, probably in April, we will all be flying to Nanaimo, to be with Larry's family and have a memorial for him there. The exact date has not been determined yet, but I will let you know.

I will be staying at Norm's in Ottawa for awhile, (his Tel # is 613-824-0683) but will be returning to Salome AZ sometime in Jan. to decide what I am going to do with the RV, then back to Kelowna for awhile. After that I am not sure, except that I will be making my home in Ontario in the near future.
