Tim Loewen - 2020

LOEWEN, Tim - In memoriam

We are deeply saddened to announce the sudden passing of our valued colleague Tim Loewen earlier this month. Tim was 66 years old and had only begun to enjoy his well-deserved retirement in October 2020.

A long-time Global Affairs Canada employee, Tim made many contributions to the work of the department throughout his career. Tim joined the department in 1990 and spent the next 13 years as a telecommunications technician and foreign service technologist, with postings in Harare, New Delhi and Nairobi.

In 2003, Tim joined the Technical Security Countermeasures Unit, where he would spend the remainder of his career in various roles. It was in this area of work where his inventive mind, energy and dedication flourished for many years. Tim’s enthusiasm and creativity, along with his sense of humour, were welcomed for the innovation and ingenuity they brought to the team. Tim will be sorely missed by colleagues across the Government of Canada and the Five Eyes community.

To honour Tim’s memory, the Intelligence Access and Countermeasures Division will collect condolences, memories and anecdotes to share with his family. We would be grateful if you could send your messages to the Technical Security Countermeasures team (INST (at) international (dot) gc (dot) ca) by December 4.

Due to the constraints of COVID-19, Tim’s family has decided not to hold a service.

Donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Lung Association in Tim’s memory would be appreciated.
