DOLAN, John Gerard External Affairs retiree and WW II Veteran (Navy) Founder of Ottawa's first Neighbourhood Watch 

Slipped away peacefully on April 7, 2010, at the age of 84. Beloved husband of more than 63 years to Mildred (McRae), and devoted father of Bill (Patty), Bob (Betty), Trish (Naresh), Betty and family friend Martine. Loving grandfather of Aaron (Brianna), Rachael, Amy, Lucas, and Matthew. Predeceased by his parents, Dr. Dominic and Georgina Dolan of Alexandria, and by his brother Jimmy (Causette). Survived by his sisters Isobel MacDonald (Donald), Pat MacIntyre (Vince), and Mary Goski (Ed). We celebrate his life, always choosing to do for others; he will be deeply missed by all. Friends may visit at Kelly Funeral Home (1255 Walkley Road) on Sunday, April 11 from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral Mass at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church on April 12 at 10 am. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or to the Glebe Long Term Care Centre, the staff of which helped with such compassion to give him comfort during his last years.

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the sudden death of John Dolan April 7, 2010 at the age of 84.

John joined the Department of External Affairs in 1946 as a Communicator after two years in the Navy. During his career, he worked abroad in several missions.

Beloved husband of more than 63 years to Mildred, father of Bill, Bob, Trish and Betty (retired from DFAIT) and loving grandfather of five.

The funeral will be at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church on April 12 at 10:00. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada or to the Glebe Long Term Care Centre, the staff of which helped with such compassion to give him comfort during his last years.
